Per our last post, our beloved intern Chad was charged with gathering 500 additional fans for our Facebook page or he would be given a pink slip. Flash forward a few days and while the troops have rallied, Chad is pretty much toast. He still has a week to gain some ground, but should certainly start polishing up that resume. He opened his big mouth about his Facebook prowess and powers — he deals with the consequences if we fall short. More info to come.
On another note, signed up for Google Alerts a few months back and have been receiving an inordinate amount of news clips featuring grooming concepts who just happen to have the words “Grooming Lounge” in their names. Trying to determine whether this is bothersome or simply a compliment. Perhaps it’s both.
You see, it appears the name “Grooming Lounge,” in addition to being our company’s moniker, is a pretty solid descriptor of these types of businesses as a whole. Just like any cotton swab is usually referred to as a “Q-Tip” or any nasal tissue is usually called a “Kleenex,” grooming joints are more and more frequently using the words “Grooming Lounge” somewhere in their name. See below for just a few we’ve found in the last week:
- 1847 Grooming Lounge — Dubai
- Choopperz – The Non Salon Men’s Grooming Lounge
- Emerson Joseph — A Men’s Grooming Lounge
- The Chop Shop Men’s Grooming Lounge
It’s a bit annoying as we have a lot of equity built up in our name, were the ones to coin it, and have spent years building the brand to where it is today. Not so easy to digest when someone comes along and integrates it into their name. Then again, when we reflect back to how the name came about, and the names we passed on, we certainly have to laugh. Here are just a few of the names that were bandied about (seriously), before settling on Grooming Lounge:
- Orangeflip.com & Grooming Centers: Cut us some slack, it was the dot com era.
- Capitol Grooming: A nod to our D.C. heritage
- 31 Grooming:Mike’s college roommate’s lacrosse number. The guy wrote it on everything and it was ingrained.
- Mike & Pirooz’s Groom-Atorium: That’s a joke. Never considered.
